Thanks to all participants, and to reviewers of early versions of the DVD.  Responsibility for the selection and arrangement of its content and for copyright clearances rests with the author.  This site is a work in progress.  Send comments to: roosb@gvsu.edu  An order form for the DVD will appear on this site early in 2008.

Our focus is upon ways liberal and professional education can best serve students in the 21st century.

The DVD interviews were taped at two regional, public, comprehensive institutions:  Bridgewater State College, MA. and Grand Valley State University, MI.   Both are regional, public, and comprehensive institutions.  BSC was founded in 1840; GVSU, in 1960.

The nature of the relationships between career and liberal education is a moving target.  Therefore, THE CONVERSATION CONTINUES (DVD & website) is open-ended.  Please use the DVD segments to prompt further exploration of the issues they raise - bring your own experiences and insights into the continuing conversation.

The content of this website offers information to supplement the DVD,

as do the footnotes in conventional print documents.

We hope that those new to college teaching will find the DVD/website especially useful.  Those who have served in academia for awhile may also find it helpful in refreshing, refocusing, and reconsidering aspects of an already joined continuing conversation.

“... in liberal education and democracy,
the articulation of it is secondary to the practice - which is always local and strongly flavored by time, place, and circumstance.”
