Course Description:
This course is the first in a two-part sequence designed to improve
proficiency in oral skills and academic writing in Spanish as well as listening
and reading skills. The course will also present a systematic review of grammar
and the acquisition of new vocabulary in the context of oral and written
assignments designed to promote cultural awareness of the Hispanic World.
***Prerequisite SPA 202 with a grade of C or better (not C-)
Course
objectives:
This sequence of courses is designed to help students attain the speaking
and writing skills which the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign
Languages defines for the Advanced level (you can find more information on this
at the ACTFL web site: http://www.actfl.org).
By the end of 322, students should be able to:
Ø
speak in paragraph length
utterances using a variety of conjunctions and connectors
Ø
participate in conversations on
concrete topics of personal interest such as home, work, leisure activities,
etc.
Ø
describe in detail people, places,
objects, etc.
Ø
narrate in the past with abundant,
vivid detail
Ø
express an opinion and support it
Ø
be understood by native speakers
who have little experience with non-natives
Ø
produce written texts of several
paragraphs in length
Ø
write a well organized essay
Ø
express and support opinions in
writing
Ø
express and elaborate thoughts
clearly in writing
Ø
produce detailed narrations and
descriptions in writing
Ø
have good control of the most
frequently used grammatical structures
