Now it is time to add Chime commands to modify your image. Bring up the Chime menu as before and experiment with the commands to see how you can modify the display. Some of the most powerful tools are in the Select menu. Here you can select just part of the molecule and modify only the part selected. All of these commands (and more) can be preset using commands in the embed tag. For example, entering display3D=ball&stick at the end of the embed tag will make the molecule show up as balls and sticks. Startspin=true will display a rotating image. spinx=50 will set the spin rate around the x-axis to 50 deg/sec. You can set different spin rates for the y and z axes. A larger sample of embed commands is on the handout you received. A complete list of embed tags can be found at the Chime support site. Among the most useful of the embed commands is script="
". Between the quotes, you can enter a series of script commands.
The script commands give you even more control over the image. For
example entering script="zoom 150 rotate z -80 select all color blue
select atomno=1 color red" will make the image 150% of original size,
rotate the molecule -80 deg on the z axis, color all atoms blue except
the atom number 1, which will be colored red. A list of script commands
is also in your handouts. Most Chime script commands are derived
from RasMol (see
here for a list). Others are specific to Chime and are listed
at Chime support site.
