Paper #1 Due for Professor Coolidge:  (5-7 pages)

1.  Compare and contrast the world and ideas of Niccolo Machiavelli and the world and ideas of Hans Behem, the drummer of Niklashausen.  Analyze the historical events and circumstances (social status, religious outlook, education, geography, and intellectual context) that shaped each figure.  Are they more similar or different?  Why?

This paper does not involve any outside research.  The paper must use the following sources:  The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli, Peasant Fires by Richard Wunderli, and The Making of the West by Lynn Hunt.  The paper may also use the Black Death documents found online and any of Dr. Wright’s sources.
