The remaining photos are some general shots from our journey. Some depict the poverty that folks are living in irregardless of the earthquake.

river.jpg (30576 bytes) This is the most polluted river in all of Central America. (My apologies that I forgot the name of it.) The smell was horrible and although this photo does not depict it as well as it could, it really is loaded with trash.

You can see the houses built up on the bank. Pictures below show this a little better.

homesonriver.jpg (18863 bytes) Can you believe how closely these are built on the bank. I can't imagine them being very stable. This depicts the general living conditions.
Below is in the same general area. These houses are built on the railroad tracks. Almost literally. And the train still runs and they're trying to improve train service. Certainly these folks will be displaced. I really don't understand why they built where they did. If I find out, I'll let you know.

Finally, this is our beloved Brenda (r), our Delegation Guide. She was incredible. This is a meeting with Marlene, an attorney for worker's rights in the Mequilas (factories).

The Next Page will take you to the photos from my last Encounter, in 1998. I hope you'll view them as well! Return to my homepage.
